We’ve all been at this stage of our driving experience and managed to overcome the nervousness and fear of driving alone or driving uphill, or going to new places. Unfortunately, some people never quite get over this stage and feel apprehensive every time they have to drive outside their comfort zone. Here are some tips that may come in useful for nervous drivers:

  1. Get music that makes you relax and set it up in once CD or on a CD player changer that automatically shifts to the next CD
  2. If it’s your first time to drive, stay away from busy streets. Take the long way until you become more confident. Just make sure the long way is not dangerous and well light at night
  3. Do not get in the car with a back seat driver. That person is just going to drive you crazy
  4. Know the weather conditions and keep updated with traffic conditions as well while you are on the road
  5. Turn your mobile phone into silent mode
  6. If you’re scared of hanging on an uphill climb, then go the roundabout way until you have confidence in yourself and with the car. However, you have to realize that it’s important to practice those driving skills that make you nervous.
  7. Bring some chewing gum, a bottle of water with a sip straw – something that could help relax you and take your mind off your fears
  8. Bring a friend who cares and can support you

What most nervous drivers don’t realize is that they drive nervous and it’s obvious. You could get victimized by pranksters who like to prey on new drivers. Here are some of the signs you should try to avoid:

  1. Don’t drive way below the minimum speed limit. It’s not just obvious, it’s dangerous
  2. Stick to one lane and switch lanes way ahead of the turn. Use the signal lights and wait for a gap
  3. Don’t beep your horn for every adjustment the cars beside you make. They’re not going to bump you so just relax

One day, hopefully soon, the nerves will be gone and you will enjoy driving. If you see someone who was once like you – a nervous driver – be kind and remember you once had fears too.
